Engineering
Our in-house engineering team can design cylinders specifically for your application, or we can manufacture to your prints and specifications. We have extensive experience in solving tough application problems in a variety of markets and frequently redesign cylinders for new customers with a history of failure. The failures are typically eliminated at a reduced cost. Our engineers will work closely with your engineers to create the best possible hydraulic cylinder for your application.
Computer FEA modeling and in-house fatigue testing insures the highest standard of structural reliability under fatigue, shock, or vibration loading. Our fatigue test stations validate your cylinders in an accelerated life cycle test. We can perform any type of testing required, such as impulse, opposing full cycle, simulated loading, or comparison using your actual pressure curves.
Contact our engineering staff early in your design process. We can go to work to design the most reliable and cost-effective cylinder. We can also provide 2D or 3D models designed in Pro/Engineer or translated to any other format for use in your design software and marketing literature.
Manufacturing
RMT manufactures cylinders in two state-of-the-art facilities located in Sheldon, Iowa (191,000 sq. ft) and Spirit Lake, Iowa (256,000 sq. ft.) using cellular and LEAN manufacturing principles. With a background in tool and die making, RMT has an innovative approach to cylinder manufacture utilizing the latest in manufacturing technology and custom, in-house designed production, automation, and robotic equipment. As a robotics and welding equipment distributor, we have access to cutting edge technology and have the expertise necessary for successful integration for cylinder manufacture. Our CNC job shop utilizes some of the most advanced equipment available, which gives us a level of machining and fabrication capability that is unheard of in the cylinder industry.

We produce nearly all of our cylinder components in-house and use this vertical integration to maintain absolute control of our product quality. This quality is built in whether the item is for a high volume automotive application or a single piece repair part.
Every RMT cylinder is 100% hydraulically tested to our exacting standards. Test stand cleanliness levels are monitored by a particle counter and maintained to exceed your ISO level requirements.
